An improbable note?

Am currently reading academia-set mystery by author I like.

The lead is currently up for tenure and is preparing the necessary portfolio.

At one point, as a result of plot convolutions, the police confiscate their computer for forensic purposes.

Character is all 'Nooooooo, that has all my stuff for tenure on it, woez, woez'.

How likely is it, we ask, that someone preparing their documentation for tenure would not have this backed up probably in several different places?

Or am I unduly belt, braces, and spare belt in my handbag about backing up?
