Re the latest attempt to grant personhood to fertilised ova, by Mississippi legislators -
I assume these guys are almost certainly also Creationists -
I think they need to take up their case with The Guy Right At The Top.
Because a natural miscarriage rate of 10-20% suggests a serious design flaw, no? I don't think any abortionist ever has been responsible for that kind of proportion of terminations to live births.
Stillbirths are reckoned to occur at 1 in every 200 births.
And surely an intelligent designer* could have come up with some way of ensuring that ectopic pregnancies - just under 2 in every 100 pregnancies - just did not happen?
If God was a hands-on designer of the prototype, I think we could claim that he and Nature were not, as Alfred Lord Tennyson claimed, 'at strife'. because
So careful of the type she seems,
So careless of the single life
could apply to both (In Memoriam, Canto LV).
*Though I have occasionally hazarded that maybe the design was intelligent, but contracted out to the equivalent of cowboy plumbers who made a bodged-up job of it, and were quite possibly working in teams on different areas and not communicating very well.
