oursin: Cartoon hedgehog going aaargh (Hedgehog goes aaargh)

I was recently perusing the Marks and Spencer website in search of women's trousers.

Because, over the years, I have found that their women's trousers, short length, fit me and do not require me to turn up the hems so they do not trail along the ground.

And, admittedly, I am not madly taken by their current offerings, which are not particularly me, somehow.

But I daresay there would be something or other there that would be acceptable -

- except -

- they do not give any information as to whether the item in question has POCKETS and, as I am eschewing the carrying of bags on account of the neck and shoulder issues, I am done with trousers that do not have pockets.

One cannot always tell from the picture, and, even if they appear to have pockets, how am I to know whether they are real pockets or a design feature, a Potemkin pocket, a flap or a zip with nothing behind it?

Frustration, frustration, frustration.

They have been messing around with the inside leg measurements too, and not in any consistent way. For at least two decades, all their short length trousers have been slightly too short for me (wearable, but permanently irritating). This year I found one style of corduroy trousers that is the perfect length, and another that is unwearably too short (and so similar to the right ones, down to sharing several colours, that I didn't notice until after I had got them home and cut the tags off).

Perfectly reasonable. I loathe those fake pockets; you're reduced to looking around the internet for customer reviews/complaints.

I like their short leg length trousers too; my problem is that there's never enough in stock...

That is very stupid and useless of Marks and Spencer. Do they even know what the hell century this is?

1) You do know the Delany essay about the day Marilyn Hacker discovered the pockets in his jeans, yes? If not, I will track it down for you.

2) You have this in common with onyxlynx, who as a seamstress herself, sewed pockets into clothes that didn't have them.

I like them a lot and deprecate my pants without them, but I do wear some pants without them.

If they have very shallow pockets, it's a lot easier to make the pockets deeper.

[personal profile] jaeleslie is experimenting with adding pockets to a dress. I think she has Designs on more of her clothes.

Me, I just thrifted a pair of Lee jeans that are definitely from the '90s. How can I tell? Not just the fit/cut, but the pockets, which go halfway down to the knees.
