YESSSS!!!! I have actually made a start on The Thing with tight deadline about which there has been faff. I do not think I can just repurpose a thing I did for a niche purpose, but looking at it and cutting and pasting the relevant bits means I do not have a blank page before me, and the ideas, if not the expression, I think can be reused.

I think I mentioned being invited to be participant at workshop next week workshopping a themed journal special issue in Area Of Interest?

Have been solicited to attend workshop relating to Newer Field of Interest (which is a change from being dragged onstage to do @oursin's greatest hits...) and have even thought of something to offer - as it's going to be early autumn I'm not going to be able to embark on very new work.

Have bopped off a panel proposal for conference of interest in New Year, growing out of issues that doing that chapter last year set me thinking about (the volume involving that chapter, I may remark, has gone Very Quiet).

Still niggling at the back of my mind is that outstanding ODNB entry I committed to...

I was madly, madly miffed to discover that there is a day symposium on Naomi Mitchison happening towards the end of this month - timing and distance (it is being held in what one must concede is a geographically appropriate location) mean that I don't think I can drop everything and zoom off (and why did I never hear about this, diva sulk? have I not published on Mitchison?) Waaaaaaaaa.

Oh yes, and I recollect that there was something in early December I was invited to, but that seems to have gone a bit quiet.

Oh, hooray for being recognized as a Nexpert in a newer field of interest. People so often form a view of one's capacities and interests and then just never, ever update it and even become offended if reminded that anything needs an update.

Well, I guess you could call it cheating -- or just efficiency, or the natural progression of things.
