Well, phew - I was surprised yet delighted to be sent an invite code for Dreamwidth. And sort of vaguely supposed that if people subscribed/gave access they would be people from my lj posse, but hey, wow, New People!

*Waves tiny prickly paw*

I suspect I'm in a somewhat unusual demographic for Dreamwidth as at present constituted - middleaged now retired British archivist/if still modestly active historian with no particularly fannish interests. Besides being A Published Historian (my general field of interest being gender and sexuality, modern UK & Europe), I've also written sff reviews and criticism, and published (many years ago) two short stories. There are also several unpublished novels on my hard drive. I read a lot and diversely: sff (especially by women writers), mysteries and thrillers (ditto), the classic novels, early C20th middlebrow women novelists, Persephone Books, biography, non-fiction, etc.

Cranky pedant R me, pretty much.

I am addicted to lolspeak, and also Molesworthian (as eny fule no, hem-hem). Also, semi-colons rule! and apostrophes are much abused. I am possibly over-given to parentheses. And try to keep the ellipses to a reasonable level...

I live in London and would hate to live anywhere else (ToL, ToL!) but enjoy travel.

The title of this journal is my motto, 'It's Always More Complicated' - I once gave a lecture to a conference of predominantly literary scholars, and began a response to a question with, 'well, it's rather more complicated'. Laughter in audience and comment that historians always say that it's more complicated. That, dear readers, is because it pretty much always is.

Oh yes, and I like to keep this identity distinct from my academic and professional activities.

Well, I'm also British, though I'm a bit younger and do have fannish interests as well as techie stuff.

Was it intentional to ask for a Captcha from logged-in users?

(I should probably also mentioned that I came here via [personal profile] damned_colonial)

Hello! I recognised your name from LJ when on a browse for more new Dreamwidth people to read. (I'm [livejournal.com profile] phoenixdreaming on LJ, we have some LJ friends in common.) I like your subject matter and how you write, and on DW I'm not timid about subscribing to interesting people. Like you, I'm not fannish, but I'm thoroughly interested in people and so read many journals.

You're fan-compatible, though ;)

Hello! I am a friend of "tree and leaf" and looking for more friends on Dreamwidth, so thought I would introduce myself. I'm a historian as well (albeit still at the doctoral level, and rather fannish too). Which is a long-winded way of saying... I am subscribing to your journal. Reciprocity not necessarily expected.

Hello! I feel like I've seen your comments around somewhere; I found you by reading my network page. I am subscribing, I hope that is okay! Random introduction of things that relate to you: I have a BA in history (focusing on African American/African history) although that is probably not the route I will follow professionally, as school/academia tends to push all my stress buttons. Currently I'm dealing with Lyme disease anyway so no career at the moment. My mom/mum is British (from Yorkshire), so I have been to the UK a number of times. Maybe someday I will live there, who knows. ^_^ Right now I live near Washington, DC. Also, I knit quite a bit.

Hello! I'm exploring DW and thought I'd add you, as your posts seem very interesting. :)

I'm glad of the link to the middlebrow women novelists, as I've read some of their books via Virago Modern Classics, but I don't know much background about them and it's nice to have an overview.

Hello and please forgive my cheekiness in subscribing to your journal! I found lots of mutual interest in your posts (English, graduate in history albeit of the ancient kind, reading sff, many authors liked in common etc). Hope you don't mind me mooching and reading along.

Archivist! Hello! I am a library assistant myself, but archival remains eternally a great interest of mine. <3 (idk how it is elsewhere, but over here in Germany the apprenticeships for archival assistant and library assistant are technically the same, and in theory either can do the other's job, though of course in practice the differences are rather more pronounced.) You linked to your post about Radclyffe Hall in [community profile] fffriday and your posts seem relevant to my interests, so I have subscribed to you on the basis of that!

Hi, I also like books and feminist history -- I forget exactly where I found you, but decided to describe. (My journal is mostly my logging my reading, but you can use my poorly-maintained tags to see my few side posts on feminist history.)

Hullo. Here via network, though it's entirely unclear to me which particular connection it was that spurred.

Possibly just the universe saying I needed to hear more "it's more complicated than that" voices, lately, rather than just my own.
